At the Primal Games we see grappling not only as a sport but also as a martial art. Grappling should be one of the most effective martial arts in unarmed combat and a perfect stepping stone on your way to a MMA fight. The Primal rules are specially designed to stimulate moves that give you an edge in MMA, for example: takedowns, submissions and dominant positions.
A dominant position is considered a position where one can throw punches (in MMA) or submit the opponent. That’s why jumping guard is not encouraged, the opponent of the guardpuller will receive points for a takedown. After all, once you pull guard, you are laying on you back and in a real fight you could be on the receiving end of some serious punches.
If you have a strong guard game you can still use it of course, but make sure you submit your opponent or improve to a more dominant position. Check out the Primal rules here.
